Plants are divided into different families, and further plit into different genera. However, recent research has pointed out that these divisions don't always make sense. The same goes for fruits. Fruits are botanically divided into different groups, but sometimes the fruit types are not related to the plant's familiy. Below is a table categorizing this.
Fruit families
Below you see a table of some botanically correct fruit names. As you can see, some are a bit off. For example, a strawberry is not actually a berry.
Some other strange stuff:
- A tomato is a berry
- The fruit shape of a cucumber is called a Pepo
- All fruits with >1 seed in it are technically aggregrate fruits, but they are not grouped that way.
- The shape of a pomegranate is called a Balausta
